IMPORTANT INFO ON THE BREED IN NZ

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE BRED WITHIN NEW ZEALAND

We have been involved with Staffordshire Bull Terrier since 1993 before entering into the unknown world of the Japanese Spitz.

Many breeders are not even giving NZKC papers to their puppy buyers, be concerned!!
Even if the breeder states that it comes from NZKC registred parents. If they cant legally put their own name to a puppy by giving papers legal NZKC papers, beware their is more going on.
Many breeders will have a litter and sell the odd puppy without papers for certain reasons (I have done this once) but it always should be a big concern to any buyer purchasing stated NZKC papered parents but the offspring are not papered.
The most popular story is I dont want them getting in the hands of certain puppy farmers, this totally makes THEM the puppy farmer, by not disclosing the true pedigree, dont be fooled by them.

I was involved with DNA testing in the late 1990s when I became the first Staffordshire Bull Terrier breeder in New Zealand to annouce the findings of Cataract puppies within the breed. After this the entire World was in shock, deversating many world renowned kennels , that then also annouced my findings to be correct. From the United Kingdom-Europe- Australia to little New Zealand everyone got active and poured money into the research towards this terrible disease, taking approx 5 years of massive dedication from Staffordshire Bull Terrier Clubs across the world.

We now have 2 wonderful tests, enabling us to DNA test the parents before continuing with a mating, never to have a Cataract or Epileptic puppy within the breed again.
We have been involved with Staffordshire Bull Terrier since 1993 before entering into the unknown world of the Japanese Spitz.
We made a firm decision to DNA test all our Breeding stock due to the lack of ethics with certain breeders within the breed.
DNA testing also gives pet buyers and Show Exhibitors peace of mind, that what they have purchased is exactly what the NZKC papers claim the dogs bloodline to be.

Although there are no ongoing concerns of this leavel within the Japanese Spitz breed, there are many other concerns, making it a priority for me to move this wonderful breed forward. We have to stop the falsification of bloodlines and be ethical enough to genuinely know what stud dog has actually mated with what bitch

I was one of the first Breeders in Staffords to endorse ALL my pet puppies and have de-sexing contracts. Other renowned kennels use to laugh at me doing this (dont worry we still are friends and still laugh together) however many years later 99% of Stafford breeders now Endorsed Pet puppies + give out the diet sheets and puppy Information Pack that I started giving to my buyers in the 1990s .

Anyone not seen to do any of these now, would be looked at in a different light. Not allowing people to willy nilly breed, just for the sack of breeding and now giving the power over to the show exhibitors, our Staffords in the last 7 years, are truely WORLD CLASS, winning continuely in the show sector and now taking the
2011 NEW ZEALAND NATIONAL DOG SHOW!! ( Well done to Mark & Cathy of Challenger kennels)
We also have my long time Stafford friend, Stepehen Meridith with Eddie representing our little country New Zealand in the
Eukanuba World Challenge in Florida. To my friend Shirley New, who Proudly owns and loves him, I wish them well!
PS 10 Best In Shows is AMAZING!!

Breeders have to start Endorsing ALL JS puppies to pet homes on Restricted Rego (exactly what all good breeders do in Australia) to improve this wonderful breed and also have it world class like our Australian neighbours.
We have to start breeding only from the Best Show Quaility dogs and not excepting people to simply breed a litter once a year, allowing them a stud dog of any kind , just so they can have a litter and send more puppies out into the hands of people that will breed from them like the breeder before
